DMS Students to Participate in Holocaust Seminars
Dorseyville Middle School eighth graders will participate in Holocaust seminars at the school March 16 and 18, 2016. The seminars are the culmination of the eighth grade Holocaust unit. The seminars, with varying topics, are being led by the eighth grade teachers and begin on March 16 when the students will be attending seminars for three periods during the day. Seminar topics will include human behavior, artwork and the Holocaust, Holocaust documentaries, and the history of the Holocaust.
On March 18, the entire eighth grade student body will be attending an assembly with the theme of “Children of the Holocaust.” The assembly will enable the students to hear about what children and adolescents would have experienced during that time. A member of the community will also be sharing the story of her parents and what they experienced by being a part of the Holocaust as children. Additionally, some of the eighth grade students will be reading Holocaust poetry and performing dramatic readings. Several eighth grade teachers will also be discussing the themes of human responsibility and literature through the Holocaust. Following the assembly, the students will watch a documentary entitled, “Nicky’s Family.” The documentary is about an Englishman who organized the rescue of 669 Czech and Slovak children just before the outbreak of World War II.
