DMS Orchestras Win Awards

The Dorseyville Middle School Sinfonia and Philharmonic orchestras recently placed at a Music in the Parks Festival. The Sinfonia placed first in their division with a “Superior” rating. The Philharmonic placed first in their division with a “Superior” rating and won first overall orchestra (which included both middle and high school orchestras). The Philharmonic also won the Espres de Corps Award trophy which is presented to students from a school who demonstrate proper social behavior as well as musical behavior/encouragement. The orchestras received trophies for their winning performances.

The Music in the Parks festival was held May 7 in Hershey, Pennsylvania. More than 30 ensembles from schools from Delaware, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia competed.

The Dorseyville Middle School Sinfonia Orchestra includes 26 students and the Philharmonic includes 64 students, all in grades six, seven, and eight. The orchestras are under the direction of teacher Jeff Bryer.
