High School Students Teach Robotics to Middle School Students

Fox Chapel Area High School students are volunteering to teach robotics design and programming to several Dorseyville Middle School students. The class, entitled RoboClass 101, is a three-part series that was held December 9 and December 11, with the final class being held December 18. The introductory robotics classes are being offered free-of-charge for interested Dorseyville Middle School students and are taught by ninth-twelfth grade students involved in the Fourth River Robotics program based at Fox Chapel Area High School. The Fox Chapel Area High School Fourth Rivers Robotics is a team that competes in the FIRSTTM Tech Challenge. As part of the class, students learn to design, create, and program LEGO® robots from the Mindstorms robotics platform.

The classes are a way for the high school students to give back to the community by teaching younger children about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). The final class in the series will be taught December 18, 2014, in the Dorseyville Middle School library from 3-4 p.m.
