Middle School Student Places in Regional History Day Competition
Dorseyville Middle School eighth grader Annika Urban recently placed in the regional level of the National History Day competition. Annika earned a third place in the Junior Individual Documentary category at the regional contest that was held March 14, 2015, at the Heinz History Center. Annika produced a video documentary and wrote a paper on Alan Turing for her project. Turing was a mathematician and a pioneer in computer science.
The theme of the competition was leadership and legacy and students began working on their projects last October during a kickoff event held at the Heinz History Center. More than 430 students from schools from Allegheny, Washington, Greene, Fayette, Westmoreland, and Somerset counties participated in the competition.
Annika's third place finish qualifies her to compete at National History Day Pennsylvania which will be held May 12 and 13 at Millersville University.
