High School Students Place at Model UN Conferences
•Two Fox Chapel Area High School students won awards at the University of Virginia Model United Nations (UN) Conference. Sophomores Karissa Becer and Albert Liu earned a “Verbal Commendation” (equivalent to fourth place).
More than 825 students from schools across the East Coast participated in the 35th Annual University of Virginia Model UN Conference. The conference was held November 13-15, 2015, at the University of Virginia.
•Two Fox Chapel Area High School students placed at the University of Pittsburgh Model UN Conference. Juniors Mihir Garimella and Suvir Mirchandani won second place for their position paper. Additionally, senior Ishan Khatri helped with the paper, but was unable to attend the actual competition.
Approximately 460 students from 28 schools from western Pennsylvania participated in the University of Pittsburgh Model UN Conference. The conference was held November 2 at the University of Pittsburgh.
The purpose of the Model UN conferences is to enable students to role play and simulate the countries in the United Nations. As a part of the conferences, students debate and try to solve global problems from the perspectives of other countries.
