Student Magazine Wins First Place National Award
Fox Chapel Area High School’s 2014-2015 literary arts magazine “Tapestry” has been named a first place winner in the 2015 American Scholastic Press Association’s Annual Contest/Review for Scholastic Yearbooks, Magazines and Newspapers. “Tapestry” won first place with Special Merit in the magazine portion of the competition. Special Merit awards are given to magazines with special and outstanding design and content. Additionally, 2015 graduate Faith Kim won the distinction of “Outstanding Artist” for her artwork that appeared in the magazine.
The 2014-2015 senior staff members of “Tapestry” were 2015 graduates Zoe Aridor, Emily Fabiszewski, Nicole Fallert, Yosra Kandil, Faith Kim, Jaagrit Randhawa, Sarah Ssemakula, and Rachel Stein; current 2015-2016 seniors Maria Burns, Che Esch, Emma Lloyd, Nina Mulroy, Stephen Polcyn, Sophie Rodosky, Kristen Scipione, and Bailey Yousem; and current 2015-2016 juniors Rachel Gorby, David Han, Emma Paulini, and Avalon Perdriel-Arons. The students’ advisor is Fox Chapel Area High School language arts teacher Jessica Green.
The American Scholastic Press Association’s contest is open to students from middle schools, high schools, and colleges from across the United States. Entries include magazines, newspapers, and yearbooks and they are judged on page design, story layout, graphics, headlining, cover design, and photography.
