High School Collecting iPods for Music & Memory Program
The Fox Chapel Area High School Music Department is holding a collection of gently used and new iPods March 28-April 8, 2016. The collection is being held in conjunction with the Music & MemorySM programs at Presbyterian SeniorCare’s affiliates, including Longwood at Oakmont.
Anyone wishing to donate an iPod can drop it off at the Fox Chapel Area High School office Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. March 28-April 8. Additionally, iPods will also be collected at the Kaleidoscope concert on April 5, and at the FC’s Got Talent show April 7. Both events will be held at the high school and start at 7 p.m.
Music & Memory is a non-profit organization that is all about bringing joy into the lives of people suffering from Alzheimer’s, other forms of dementia, and a wide range of cognitive physical impairments. Through the program, professionals in nursing homes and other care setting are trained in how to set up personalized music playlists on iPods for those in their care. These musical favorites tap deep memories not lost to dementia and can reawaken residents, enabling them to feel like themselves again, converse, socialize, and stay present. The program is used in hundreds of care facilities through the United States, Canada, and around the world.
