High School Students Chosen for Orchestra Honors

Several Fox Chapel Area High School students were selected to perform with prestigious Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) orchestras.

•PMEA All-State Orchestra – Six Fox Chapel Area High School students were selected by audition to perform with the prestigious 2016 PMEA All-State Orchestra. The students chosen were senior Olivia Van Dyke (oboe); juniors Elizabeth Heidenreich (violin), Timothy Sutton (cello), Philip Swigon (bassoon), and Bohan Yao (viola); and sophomore Benjamin Franks-Meinert (bassoon). The PMEA All-State Orchestra was made up of approximately 120 of the best student-musicians from across the state of Pennsylvania.

The All-State Orchestra Festival was held in conjunction with the PMEA Annual In-Service Conference March 30-April 2 in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and culminated with a concert April 2.

•PMEA 2016 Western Region State Orchestra – Six Fox Chapel Area High School students were selected by audition to perform with the PMEA 2016 Western Region State Orchestra. The students are senior Olivia Van Dyke (oboe); juniors Elizabeth Heidenreich (violin), Timothy Sutton (cello), Philip Swigon (bassoon), and Bohan Yao (viola); and sophomore Benjamin Franks-Meinert (bassoon). The Western Region State Orchestra included students from across the western half of Pennsylvania.

Approximately 120 students were selected for the Western Region State Orchestra and the festival was held at Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy in Erie, Pennsylvania, February 25-27.

•PMEA District 1 Orchestra – Seven Fox Chapel Area High School students were selected by application to perform with the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 1 Orchestra. The orchestra was comprised of a select group of student-musicians from across the Pittsburgh area. The students chosen were senior Olivia Van Dyke (oboe); juniors Elizabeth Heidenreich (violin), Timothy Sutton (cello), Philip Swigon (bassoon), and Bohan Yao (viola); and sophomores Benjamin Franks-Meinert (bassoon) and Elizabeth Mountz (oboe).

A total of 160 students were selected to participate in the District 1 Orchestra Festival which was held at Upper St. Clair High School January 7-9.
