Battle Bot Team Places at States/Qualifies for Nationals

A team of Fox Chapel Area High School students recently won seventh place at the PA BotsIQ State Competition and qualified for the National Robotics League Battle Bot competition. The robot is named “La Venganza del Diablo” and the team members are seniors Joseph Klaas, Jacob Smith, Brian Koglin, Dylan Lion, Jacob Pilarski, Darrien Thomas, and Andrew Wirkowski and juniors Thomas McFadden, Christopher Snider, Andrew Sobek, Amanda Trusiak, and Skylor Wright. A total of 80 battle bot teams participated in the state competition which was held at California University of Pennsylvania April 8 and 9, 2016. The National Robotics League Battle Bot competition will be held May 20 and 21 at California University of Pennsylvania and 65 teams from across the United States qualified to participate.

“I’m so proud of the team’s hard work and effort shown during the two days of competitions,” said technology education teacher and BotsIQ coach Ken Grimm.

BotsIQ is an educational robotics competition for high school age students. It provides students with a unique, hands-on experience that allows them to discover the possibilities of a career in the manufacturing sector and other Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields.
