High School Students Chosen for Orchestra Honors

Several Fox Chapel Area High School students were selected to perform with prestigious Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) orchestras.

•PMEA All-State Orchestra – Three Fox Chapel Area High School students were selected by audition to perform with the prestigious 2017 PMEA All-State Orchestra. The students chosen were senior Philip Swigon, junior Katherine Chomko, and sophomore Chloe Yofan. The PMEA All-State Orchestra includes approximately 120 of the best student-musicians from across the state of Pennsylvania.

The All-State Orchestra Festival will be held in conjunction with the PMEA Annual In-Service Conference April 19-22 in Erie, Pennsylvania, and will culminate with a concert on April 22.

•PMEA 2017 Western Region State Orchestra – Seven Fox Chapel Area High School students were selected by audition to perform with the PMEA 2017 Western Region State Orchestra. The students are senior Philip Swigon; juniors Sarah Baldwin, Katherine Chomko, Benjamin Franks-Meinert, and Andreas Paljug; and sophomores Alexander Perez and Chloe Yofan. The Western Region State Orchestra included students from across the western half of Pennsylvania.

Approximately 120 students were selected for the Western Region State Orchestra and the festival was held at Dubois Area Middle School in March.

•PMEA District 1 Orchestra – Nine Fox Chapel Area High School students were selected by application to perform with the PMEA District 1 Orchestra. The orchestra was comprised of a select group of student-musicians from across the Pittsburgh area. The students chosen were senior Philip Swigon; juniors Sarah Baldwin, Katherine Chomko, Benjamin Franks-Meinert, Elizabeth Mountz, and Andreas Paljug; and sophomores Hannah Kim, Alexander Perez, and Chloe Yofan.

A total of 160 students were selected to participate in the District 1 Orchestra Festival which was held at Moon Area High School in January.
