High School Students Chosen for Honors Orchestra

Nineteen Fox Chapel Area High School students were recently selected to participate in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) 2017 District 1 Honors String Orchestra. The students chosen to participate are seniors Andreas Paljug (bass) and Tao Sheng (viola); juniors Ji-Yool Moon (cello), Sarena Seeger (cello), Ziya Xu (violin), Chloe Yofan (violin); sophomores Amelia Bothe (cello), Isabelle Doerr (violin), Oskar Ernharth (bass), Evan Gu (viola), Noah Hertzman (cello), Chaehyun “Cuna” Kim (violin), Zeynep Ozkaya (viola), Sydney Ulanowicz (violin), Felix Veser (viola), and Aaron Wu (violin); and freshmen Isabella Liberto (violin), Alexandra Morton (violin), and Kimia Rafiee (viola).

Approximately 225 students from across the greater Pittsburgh area auditioned for the PMEA District 1 Honors String Orchestra and only 96 were chosen to participate. The students will rehearse November 18 and 19 with the concert being held November 19 at 3:30 p.m. at Bethel Park High School. The orchestra will be conducted by David Torns, associate conductor of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and education conductor of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. The concert will feature music by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Benjamin Britten, and Samuel Barber.
