High School Students Place at Pitt Model UN Conference

Several Fox Chapel Area High School students recently placed at the Annual University of Pittsburgh Model UN Conference. The team of seniors Emilia Bianchini and Bridget Wang; sophomores Alyssa Carnevali, Hannah Drum, Gavin Hitchens, Zeynep Ozkaya, Aaron Santilli, Sina Shaikh, Helene Tracey, and Felix Veser; and freshmen Harrison Calig and Bennett Marsh were awarded first place overall in the large delegation category. Winning other first-place awards were senior Andreas Paljug, junior Zachary Lakkis, and sophomores Sina Shaikh and Felix Veser. Second-place winners included junior Tristan McClelland; sophomores Rajeev Godse, Gavin Hitchens, and Aaron Santilli; and freshmen Jackson Romero and Anthony Nguyen.

Nearly 500 students from 23 high schools from Western Pennsylvania participated in the University of Pittsburgh Model UN Conference. The conference was held November 13 at the University of Pittsburgh.

The purpose of the Model UN conference is to enable students to role play and simulate the countries in the United Nations. As a part of the conference, students debate and try to solve global problems from the perspectives of other countries.
