Students Place at OSU Model UN Conference

Five Fox Chapel Area High School students won individual awards at the Ohio State University Model United Nations (UN) Conference. Sophomore Rajeev Godse was awarded first place; freshman Jackson Romero won second place; and juniors Diana Crookston and Tristan McClelland and sophomore Gavin Hitchens all won honorable mentions (equivalent to third place).

Additionally, the Fox Chapel Area High School team as a whole won Best Small School Delegation (first place overall among schools with fewer than 20 delegates at the conference). The entire team included senior Sara Puthenpurayil; juniors Isabella Boleng, Diana Crookston, Tristan McClelland, Grace Stasolla, and Ziya Xu; sophomores Hanna Chen, Rajeev Godse, Gavin Hitchens, Boomba Nishikawa, Zeynep Ozkaya, Sina Shaikh, Shando Naini, Helene Tracey, Thomas Traub, and Felix Veser; and freshman Jackson Romero.

Approximately 200 students representing 12 high schools from Pennsylvania and Ohio participated in the Ohio State University Model UN Conference. The conference was held April 6-8, 2018, in Columbus, Ohio.

The purpose of the Model UN conferences is to enable students to role-play and simulate the countries in the United Nations. As a part of the conferences, students debate and try to solve global problems from the perspectives of other countries.
