Battle Bot Team Excels at Regional Preliminary Competition

A team of Fox Chapel Area High School students recently won second place at the Southwestern Pennsylvania BotsIQ Preliminary Competition and qualified for the state competition. Team members include seniors Jason Hertzberg, Gregory Kirklewski, Tyler Rapp, and Christian Reiber and juniors Graham Childs, Samuel Gilmore, Jacob Keeler, and Connor McAtee. The Fox Chapel Area students won second place with their 15-pound battle bot that they built and named “Reaper.”

The preliminary competition was held at Butler County Community College March 8, 2018. A total of 72 teams from 65 schools from Southwestern Pennsylvania participated. The Pennsylvania State BotsIQ Competition will be held April 13 & 14 at California University of Pennsylvania.

BotsIQ is an educational robotics competition for high school students. It provides students with a unique, hands-on experience that allows them to discover the possibilities of a career in the manufacturing sector and other science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) fields.
