Local Students Attend World Affairs Institute Sponsored by Rotary

Students from Fox Chapel Area High School and Shady Side Academy represented the Rotary Club of Fox Chapel Area at the 44th World Affairs Institute for Student Leaders November 19, 2014, in Pittsburgh.

Some 300 students from Western Pennsylvania participated in the day-long discussion of "Russia's Place in the World." The event was sponsored by the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh and Rotary International.

The keynote speaker was David Greene, host of National Public Radio's "Morning Edition" and author of "Midnight in Siberia: A Train Journey into the Heart of Russia."

Attending from Fox Chapel Area High School were: seniors Margaux Everingham, Zach Kiehn, Sophie Roe, and Matthew Silverman; juniors Amanda Puthenpurayil and Xi Xu; sophomores David Han, Moira McCormick and Ellen Pil and freshman Emelyn Broniek. They were accompanied by Jennifer Klein, Advanced Placement U.S. Government and Politics teacher.

Shady Side Academy was represented by sophomores Maggie Mayer and Anya Prasad and history department chair Kyle Smith.

The Rotary Club of Fox Chapel Area coordinated the selection of students and paid each student's registration fee.
