Students Place at International Model UN Conference

Three Fox Chapel Area High School students recently placed at the Princeton Model United Nations (UN) Conference. Senior Frank Lou, representing Poland, was recognized with a "Verbal Commendation" (equivalent to fourth place). Sophomores Mihir Garimella and Martin Taxay, representing Kazakhstan, also won a Verbal Commendation.

Approximately 1,100 students from 58 schools from several states along the eastern seaboard, as well as from Greece, Turkey, and China, participated in the Princeton Model UN Conference. The conference was hosted by the students of the International Relations Council from Princeton University. It was held November 20-23, 2014, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and Conference Center in Princeton, New Jersey.

The purpose of the Model UN conferences is to enable students to role play and simulate the countries in the United Nations. As a part of the conference, students debate and try to solve global problems from the perspectives of other countries.
