New O'Hara Elementary School Principals - Letter to Parents/Guardians

Dear O’Hara Elementary School Parents/Guardians:

We are very pleased to let you know we have two new principals that will be serving at O’Hara Elementary School. The principal will be Kristy Batis, and joining her as assistant principal will be Stephen Edwards.

Mrs. Batis comes to Fox Chapel Area from the Shaler Area School District. There, she was named the principal of Jeffery Primary School in July of 2014 after serving as the school’s interim principal for five months. Prior to that, she was a second and third grade teacher and the curriculum chair at Burchfield Primary School from 2006-2014. During that time, she served her elementary principal internship with the Shaler Area School District in 2010 and was the district’s K-12 technology integrator during the 2009-2010 school year. Mrs. Batis has a Master of Education from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, as well as a Master of Arts in teaching from Chatham University, and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Pittsburgh. Mrs. Batis will begin her principalship at O’Hara Elementary School October 31, 2016.

Mr. Edwards served principal internships during the 2014-2015 school year in the North Allegheny and Mt. Lebanon school districts. He taught fourth grade in the South Fayette Township School District from 2014-2016. He taught fifth grade for the Greensburg Salem School District from 2011-2014, and taught sixth grade for the Moniteau School District during the 2010-2011 school year. He also served the Greensburg Salem School District as an eighth grade reading intern from 2009-2010. Mr. Edwards began his teaching career as a sixth grade classroom teacher for the Fairfax County (Virginia) Public Schools from 2007-2009. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Duquesne University and a master’s degree in reading education with reading specialist certification from the University of Pittsburgh. Mr. Edwards will begin his tenure at O’Hara Elementary upon his release from the South Fayette School District.

I am certain that these two principals will exceed your expectations. Both Mrs. Batis and Mr. Edwards will bring a fresh perspective to O’Hara Elementary School and they look forward to working with your children and are very eager to also work with our parents and guardians.

Sincerely,

Gene Freeman, Ed.D.
Superintendent
